Lake Josephine

Lake Josephine – 4.9mi / 7.8km

Lake Josephine

The 3.4 mile trip around Lake Josephine is a lovely stroll. It starts either with a 0.8 mile walk from the Many Glacier Hotel around Swiftcurrent Lake, or with a boat ride on Swiftcurrent Lake. The loop can be done in either direction. Keep an eye out for moose as you walk the raised platform at the head of Lake Josephine.

The terrain varies on this trail from the steep avalanche prone hillsides on the north side of the lake, to the riparian areas by the creek where warblers and moose love, to the dense forests on the south side of the lake. The trail slope is mellow throughout, and is great for those with weaker knees. As mentioned before, there is a boat that goes across Swiftcurrent Lake and there is also one that goes across Lake Josephine.

If you are hoping for an even shorter day and a cool view of the area, you can opt for those rides for a fee.

Trailhead: Upon entering the populated area of Many Glacier, make a left over the Swiftcurrent Creek bridge towards the historic Many Glacier Hotel and park in the parking lot. The trail starts at the south end of the hotel along the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake.

Elevation Gain/Loss: 100ft / 30m
