Quartz Creek

Quartz Creek – 13.8mi / 22.2km

Quartz Creek

This seldom traveled trail, like so many North Fork area trails, starts out in a combination of burned forest, meadows, and unburned forest. The trail begins as a rustic road leading to an old homestead in Cummings Meadow.

Past that, the trail takes on the shape of a lesser maintained single track trail. It does, however, maintain a gentle rise and fall throughout, making for a laid-back walk. As you work your way up the creek, the forest gets more lush in areas.

The tricky part of the trail is the creek crossing approximately one mile from Lower Quartz Lake. There is no bridge, so you will need to be prepared to ford the creek. In the fall, the creek is fairly tame, but crossing can prove treacherous in the spring.

Trailhead: The trail is found on the north side of Quartz Creek in the Quartz Creek Campground and ranger station area

Elevation Gain/Loss: 1,100ft / 330m
