Scalplock Lookout

Scalplock Lookout – 9.7mi / 15.7km

Scalplock Lookout

The views from Scalplock Lookout are wonderful, however, you really only start seeing those views once you hit the final half mile of your hike. Virtually all of the walk is in the dense pine and fir forest at the south end of Glacier, with only occasional limited views into the mountains to the south.

The climb is a steady grade almost the whole way up, and you can expect to see forest birds and flowers throughout your trek.

Trailhead: Pull into the Walton Ranger Station near Essex, park in the picnic area, and locate the only trailhead in that vicinity.

Elevation Gain/Loss: 3,100ft / 930m
