Dosewallips River Road

Dosewallips River Road – 13mi / 20.9km

Washouts have converted this old road to a walking and biking trail that climbs up to an impressive series of waterfalls on the Dosewallips River. After a few, short washouts, the trail settles on the level, old road near the Dosewallips River. You’ll come to the big washout that shut down the road to vehicular traffic.

The path switchbacks about 100ft/30m above the washout, with views of the surrounding valley, before dropping down along the road and officially entering into Olympic National Park. The trail follows the river up, first alongside a sublime section, then high above it out of sight.

The trail passes through an exposed, burned section of forest before entering a narrow canyon alongside the river. The path steeply climbs up alongside a breathtaking section of river that cascades over enormous boulders into pool after pool. The road ends at the old auto campground and ranger station along a beautiful, easy going section of river.

Trailhead: From Hwy 101, turn onto Dosewallips Road and head west for 8.6 miles to the end of the road.
