Mount Storm King

Mount Storm King – 4.5mi / 7.2km

The challenging Mount Storm King Trail takes you to exquisite, high vantages of the sapphire colored Crescent Lake. From the Storm King Ranger Station, the trail visits the shoreline of Crescent Lake before passing through a cathedral of tall trees.

You’ll turn up towards Barnes Creek where the signed trail for Mount Storm King takes off. While the trail was initially wide and easy-going, it becomes extremely steep, making haste up the mountain. Views are sparse as you climb up the shoulder of the mountain. After climbing 1,400ft/420m, you’ll break out to a great vantage looking down on Lake Crescent (here may be the turnaround point for those with a fear of heights).

For the stunning views, however, continue climbing up to a knife-edge ridgeline. This is followed by a steep incline where ropes are necessarily present to hold onto as you pull your way up to the exposed, rocky outcropping with stunning views of the gorgeous Lake Crescent below.

Trailhead: Look for the turnoff for the Storm King Ranger Station and Marymere Falls along Crescent Lake off Hwy 101. The trail begins near the ranger station.

Elevation Gain: 2,100ft / 630m – Elevation Loss: 2,100ft / 630m
