Ruby Beach

Ruby Beach – 1mi / 1.7km

Easily accessed arches, rock formations, wide beaches, and the tide pools around Abbey Island make Ruby Beach a popular destination. The trail switchbacks down 50 feet through a hall of vegetation before popping out amongst a sea of driftwood.

A path has been cut through the giant, silver logs that lead to Cedar Creek. The creek flows to a pool with a spire dramatically poised in the middle. Follow the creek to the sandy beach. Pick your way across or wade through the shallow creek to get to the wider beach and the tide pools near Abbey Island. At low tide, you can walk out to the island and explore the rocks for anemones and starfish.

For those looking for a longer day and a bit more solitude, head north along the beach to leave the crowds behind. You’ll cross the invisible line into the Hoh Indian Reservation as you walk along a pebble beach with tall cliffs to your right. Follow the beach 2.5mi/4km to where the Hoh River collides into the Pacific Ocean.

Trailhead: Turn into the signed parking area for Ruby Beach off Hwy 101, 7.6 miles north of the Kaloloch Ranger Station (27 miles south of Forks).
