Skiing to Bowman Lake has been on our bucket list for some time. This past Tuesday, with some overnight snow and a clear day in the forecast, we headed up to Polebridge.
We arrived at an empty parking lot at the Polebridge Ranger Station and didn't see anyone from the time we put our skis on until we took them back off later that afternoon. The morning overcast day gave way to glorious sunshine as we arrived at the foot of the lake and had lunch.
Other than white-tailed deer, we didn't see any larger mammals, but tracks in the snow led us to believe we were not that far behind a fox. The forest birds were delightful including the numerous Ruffed Grouse that we spied along the way.
It's not often you have one of Glacier's larger lakes all to yourself, but if you want to snag one, skiing or snowshoeing to one in the middle of the winter in the middle of the week greatly increases your chances.
Anyway, I posted a short blog with a video and some photos of our ski. Hope you're getting excited about some fun summer plans and getting/staying fit in the process. In the meantime, we're getting out when/where we can and taking in any sunshine we can find!
the trail awaits...
