It’s that time of the year for Audubon’s 115th annual Christmas Bird Count. As if I needed any excuse to get out in Glacier National Park on a sunny day…. citizen science is always a great excuse. While the snow was really crunchy making it hard to hear and easy to scare birds away, we still counted a few birds. Our route took us towards the Flathead Ranger Station where we saw Bald Eagles, Canada Geese, a Common Merganser, Northern Shrike and a solo Gray-crowned Rosy-finch to name a few. It was a lot of work as we found ourselves post-holing and climbing over and under lots of downfall, but this is for the birds!
If you are interested in participating in this year’s Christmas Bird Count, many places still have counts scheduled. Look up your location and get in touch so you can get out and count!
