Kristen and I sat down to rewatch "What About Bob?" last night and commented about how much of the movie we had forgotten. Revisiting a place, re-reading a book, or hiking to a place you've already been sometimes can seem like a waste of time. Why do it again when you can explore someplace new?
While I'm all about new experiences and exploring new places, I think that re-visiting something "familiar" can give you a new experience and new insights. Maybe it's just a different season (of life, or literally a different season) that causes you to see something in a different light or have a new insight.
In addition to "What About Bob?", we hiked to Avalanche Lake to start the New Year. We had the place all to ourselves. We've both been there countless times, but this time, it was remarkably quiet. No birds chirping. No waterfalls. No crowds. The snow was absorbing any other sound and it felt like any noise we made only carried 25 feet. It was new and it was great, both familiar and unfamiliar.
Hop on over to the blog and check out our day. Hope you have plans this summer to visit both new and "familiar" places.
The trail awaits...
Jake and Kristen
