So apparently we aren't doing the "gradual transitions" to the seasons around here. Last October was ridiculously warm (like sweating in shorts and a t-shirt on top of a ridge hot) to 10 inches or so of snow on November 1st and then really cold.
Apparently spring is following suit as it's been cold around here until about two weeks ago where it decided that the cold is done and now we're having highs in the 80s. Go figure.
With this warmer weather, flowers are popping and trails are drying out. Our feathered summer visitors are showing up to feed and breed, filling the air with songs that we've missed over the winter.
This past Tuesday warmed up into the mid-70s and we were gifted trillium and other beautiful flowers as well as a host of warblers, waterfowl, and other fun birds as we hiked along Lake McDonald. Check out our quick blog from our short walk here.
Rumor also has it that this weekend, we'll be able to go further up Going-to-the-Sun Road than Apgar which also means that some spring biking is in the forecast. At this point, it sounds like we'll get to go past construction starting Friday, May 5th. I'd keep an eye on the park's website and ask them at the entrance station for up to the minute info.
Also fun is to keep an eye on the road status to see what roads are currently open and where they are plowing.
Spring is officially here and we're officially excited. Lots of snow still high up which is turning the rivers into chocolate milk as the temps rise. Hiking season is arriving. :D
the trail awaits...
