Today's forecast states "Rapidly dropping temperatures during the afternoon could produce flash freeze on roads". Gross.
We've had a pretty nice fall up here in Montana. We've been able to get out and enjoy some of the lovely oranges, yellows, and reds under blue skies (in between getting the house buttoned down for the "white stuff"). One such trip was up to Piegan Pass with a quick scramble up to Cataract Mountain before Going-to-the-Sun Road closed over Logan Pass.
Also, toward the end of September, we headed down to Rocky Mountain National Park to do some hiking. In 2019, I hiked all over the park to make my Day Hikes of Rocky Mountain National Park map/guide. The following summer, two fires blew in to the park scorching some of the forests and changing the landscape. The trails were closed and have gradually been opening up. I needed to head down there so that I could keep my maps updated with the changes of the trails (which I do from time to time).
We spent a week hiking a handful of trails down there. I'll be posting blogs about our explorations, starting with Mirror Lake which I just published. Be sure to check out the blogs and get excited to visit that amazing park!
time to put away the trail runners, install snow tires, and get the puffy jackets out,
