I consider myself pretty savvy in the kitchen, but...
I’ve never been successful at making a perfectly tender, flaky pie crust. You know, the kind your grandmothers could probably make blindfolded and it'd still be exquisite.
SO this year I’ve decided to make a graham cracker crust to cradle my pumpkin pie filling. I’m sure the pie purists out there are screaming “Noooooo”, or “don’t mess with tradition”, but I’m actually looking forward to trying something new and different. (It’s not like I’m going totally rogue by making a crust from crushed potato chips and replacing the pumpkin with carrots— that would be crazy!) Now, this doesn’t mean I won’t attempt the classic version again, but I’m quite content with my crust change-up this year. Not only will it be efficient use of my time (because I won’t be fiddling with finicky pastry dough), but it eliminates the frustration and pressure. Plus, I enjoy experimenting with different food/flavor combinations, and it happens to be Jake’s favorite type of crust. Too often we get stuck believing that things MUST be a certain way, and I think that’s why working out can seem so overwhelming at times. Well I’m here to tell you, don’t get hung up thinking that exercise needs to look or feel a certain way. Sure, it’s best to follow a plan, include key “ingredients”, execute proper form, and progress towards achieving a specific goal. But it’s also important to make working out “work for you”, and sometimes that means doing the unconventional, trying something new or adding a twist to an old routine… and MOST importantly finding something YOU enjoy and have fun doing! FULLY embrace the holiday and traditions with your friends and family— Go ahead and have a second helping of mashed potatoes with gravy, take a nap, and DEFINITELY eat some pie. That being said, don’t let exercise fall by the wayside, and don’t be afraid to try something different or add something new to the mix. Remember, the only “bad workout” is the one you didn’t do. So carve out at least 15 minutes to move your body in some way. Get your friends and family involved because chances are they’re also looking for some motivation, and a workout buddy = more fun!
