Around here, once May hits, it's like, "Here weee gooooooo!!!" As we slip into the "summer season" up here in Northwestern Montana, there are hikes to hike, climbs to climb, parties to attend, disc golf, pickleball, graduations, lake stuff, etc. We'd like to slow summer down, but being so busy makes it whirl by so quickly!
This past week, we were able to get into the high country a couple of times. Don't get us wrong, we love us some creeks and trilliums and orchids and forest walks, but we really REALLY love getting some elevation and views.
The previous week, we looked for loons in the chain of Quartz Lakes. Last Thursday we headed up one ridge north as we hiked up to Numa Ridge Lookout to do a bighorn sheep/mountain goat survey. We found a couple of goats and the panoramic views we love.
Early season still has snow in the high country, but we only encountered a teeny bit near the top due to the southwest facing aspect. This time of year is also tick season and we found more of them than we ever care to find (okay, just one is too many, but we found more than that).
Ticks aside, it was a lovely day full of wildflowers, birds, views, and a couple of shedding goats. Clean air and stunning peaks rejuvenate the soul. Check out the blog and hope your summer is fun and doesn't whizz by to quickly.
the trail awaits...
