Do you experience knee or back pain while hiking? If so, know that - You aren’t alone; it’s a very common complaint (among ALL ages).
- There are ways YOU can reduce and potentially eliminate your discomfort -- My clients and myself have successfully done it!
HIKE-ABILITY student success story: "...this past weekend, I did a five-mile hike... with no hint of the usual knee pain that usually creeps in." -D.B. Overland Park, KS
Hiking with a properly fitting backpack, lightening your load, and using the assistance of trekking pole are all short-term solutions that will help to some degree. However, this doesn’t actually address the underlying issue(s). What is the solution then? The long-term solution comes from identifying "faulty links” within your body’s kinetic chain, and working to restore proper movement and function. The kinetic chain is a way in which the body’s joints, muscles, and nerves interact and influence one another during movement. When this system is performing optimally the body moves more freely and efficiently. However, when there’s a disruption in the chain it results in: - PAIN
- Dysfunctional movement patterns
- Decreased range-of-motion
- Increased susceptibility to INJURY
Pain is the body’s way of communicating to you that something is potentially wrong, and chances are you have at least one area where your "links" need improving! In my recent blog article, you can learn more about the kinetic chain, PLUS my favorite exercises to prevent or address knee and/or back discomfort while hiking. Adventure awaits... be ready for it!
