There are a handful of checkboxes that a number 1 hike must tick. Obviously it has to be an amazing hiking experience first and foremost. A lot of hikes are amazing though, but to be a "number 1", it has to have that extra-ness about it. You must think of words like classic, iconic, unique, etc. It needs almost a signature quality about the hike that helps define a park.
I'm working on a backlog of video blogs of hikes that I did when I was pounding out park maps. I was able to edit the hiking blogs for all of Glacier, Zion, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton. Things got a bit crazier when I did Yosemite, Rocky, and Olympic. As it stands right now, I have over 160 trip videos that need to be edited!
In figuring out a strategy to crawl into the video vault and edit some blogs, I've decided to skip around a bit between the parks to get the top 10 or so hikes from the remaining three parks. Yesterday I posted the number 1 hike from Yosemite, the truly iconic hike to the top of Half Dome. Starting in Yosemite Valley, you climb up past two incredible waterfalls and up to the iconic summit of Half Dome. It truly ticks all of the number 1 boxes and I think you'll love it.
I'll keep getting more top ten hikes busted out in the coming months (on Thursdays) and hopefully sprinkle some current hikes and info (on Tuesdays) as well.
In the meantime, Kristen is posting some more hiking fitness blogs. These are the tools we're using to combat too much desk time so we have better trail time. Check out her blog on Activating Glutes!
the trail awaits...
