Kestner Homestead Trail
Kestner Homestead Trail – 1.5mi / 2.4km
Step back in time to explore an early settler’s homestead on this easy path through a lush rain forest. Follow the trail from the ranger station as it travels up along Kestner Creek. The easy, level path comes to a vehicle bridge over the creek and the homestead itself.
A house sits in the middle surrounded by fields, apple trees, a barn and some outbuildings. Explore the area to find vintage vehicles and various old implements. After browsing around, continue on the road past the picnic area and enter into the lush rain forest.
Enormous moss-draped maples give the forest a cathedral feel with the floor carpeted with oxalis and ferns. The trail wanders through the green wonderland, eventually joining with the Maple Glade Trail (see Maple Glade Trail for description).
Continue straight to the bridge over Kestner Creek to the ranger station.
Trailhead: Turn onto the North Shore Road from Hwy 101 just west of Amanda Park near Lake Quinault. After traveling 5.7 miles, turn left onto the signed road for the ranger station. The trailhead is at the north edge of the parking lot.
