Pyramid Mountain

Pyramid Mountain – 7.4mi / 11.9km

Visit an old World War II lookout at the top of Pyramid Mountain with views down on Lake Crescent. Views are sparse as you travel through a pleasant forest. The grade increases as you travel up the mountain.

The forest opens up with views to Aurora Ridge and Lake Crescent as you cross a perennial washout. This section with loose footing may not be passable depending upon conditions or for those with fear of heights.

Beyond the washout, the trail aggressively switchbacks up to the ridge giving you views north to the Strait of Juan del Fuca. More views appear as you climb the ridge, culminating to vantages of Lake Crescent and Mount Storm King at the lookout. The historic lookout was built during the war to spot Japanese fighter planes flying towards Puget Sound.

Trailhead: From Hwy 101, turn onto Camp David Jr Road at the east end of Lake Crescent (just past the Fairholme store). Follow the road past the campground to the trailhead near the end of the road.
