Peabody Creek Trail
Peabody Creek Trail – 5.6mi / 9km
Follow Peabody Creek upstream through a lush forest full of moss and ferns on this dog-friendly trail. You’ll leave the busy parking lot of the visitor center into the solitude of the forest.
From the forest floor to the high canopy, a dizzying array of flora inhabits every nook and cranny. You’ll soon drop down to Peabody Creek and cross over this humble creek. On the other side, at the trail junction take a left to work your way up the creek (take a right to do the shorter 0.5/0.8km loop).
The trail works its way up the creek, crossing over it multiple times. Huge trees draped in moss loom over the creek while small birds flit amongst the shrubs growing along the stream. The trail eventually switchbacks out of the ravine to a drier forest terminating at the Hurricane Ridge Road where you can turn around and head back.
On your return, continue past the first junction you encountered to close the small loop exiting near the picnic area.
Trailhead: From Hwy 101 in Port Angeles, take Race Street to the Olympic National Park Visitor Center. The trail starts at the west end of the parking lot.
