Mallard Creek
Mallard Creek – 9.1mi / 14.7km
This trail follows Mallard Creek up to the pretty Mallard Lake. The trail immediately enters into a forest of small lodgepole pines and begins climbing. The mundane of the dense forest is occasionally broken up by views of osprey nests, distant glimpses at the Grand Prismatic Spring, and views into the rocky Mallard Creek ravine.
As you gain more elevation, you pass through a few stands of mature lodgepole pines. Right before the lake, you are rewarded for your efforts by a fantastic vantage over the lake and the large ravine at the lakeโs outlet. From here, the trail drops into the forest and joins up with the Mallard Lake Trail to the lake. Find a nice, shady spot to enjoy the peacefulness of the lake, then turn back around. This trail can be combined with the Mallard Lake Trail, Old Faithful trails, and the Powerline Trail for a 12.4mi/19.9km loop.
Trailhead: The signed trailhead for Mallard Creek is on the Grand Loop Road, just north of Old Faithful.
