The tales and trails of great adventures…
For both of us, the love of the outdoors began in childhood. As Montana kids, we spent endless hours creating and narrating our own adventures while splashing in creeks and wandering through forests.

Today, we still call Big Sky Country home, and our love for the the great outdoors remains. Glacier National Park is our inspiration and backyard playground. We’ve stood breathless on summits, watched grizzly bear cubs frolic in flower meadows, and heard the “moan” of a massive glacier— feeling so much awe in the presence of it all.

We’ve hiked thousands of miles together, and the National Parks hold a very special place in our hearts. And we know that, if it hasn’t happened already, you will fall in love with the them too — it’s our goal to help make that happen!
Why Hike 734 Exists
We created Hike 734 for two simple reasons…
To help you have amazing National Park adventures
With record numbers of visitors to the National Parks each year, there’s no denying that their beauty and splendor have been discovered. And we know that it can be logistically overwhelming to plan a trip to these majestic places.
That’s why we built this resource-rich website, created our all-in-one Map Guides, and continue to share valuable hiking insights and information with our Hike 734 community.
To give back to the places that give us so much
While on our mission to help park visitors plan and have memorable experiences, we are also passionate about preserving and protecting wild spaces for generations to come.
We actively volunteer with the GNP Citizen Science Program, and a portion of Hike 734 proceeds are donated to help fund and support projects and programs within the Parks.
Jake’s Story

After a decade of corporate IT work, my entrepreneurial drive lead me to quit my job and pursue a new career path. I embarked on a project to be the first person to hike all of Glacier’s 734 miles of trail in one summer. Along the way, I created this website and blog to document my journey, amassed a following, and successfully completed the project in October of 2011.
I morphed the Hike 734 project into the small, two-person business we have today by creating my unique Map Guide products — combining my hiking experiences, computer skills, and the desire to fulfill the unmet needs of hikers visiting the National Parks.
My all-in-one Map Guides help national park visitors plan and optimize their travel adventures. Also, I continue to post trail reports and videos to the blog archive. There you’ll not only find information about the hiking trails, but also my appreciation of the flora and fauna of the parks.
Kristen’s Story

I’m in my ‘happy place’ whenever I’m on the trail. But, I know what it’s like to experience knee pain while hiking (and how to combat it), what it takes to recover from injury, and how overwhelming and confusing the world of fitness can seem. So, I’ve made it my mission to help adventure-seekers of any age overcome physical challenges, achieve their hiking goals, and maintain active lifestyles.
I’ve taken my love of hiking, personal experiences, and professional knowledge as a certified personal trainer to create fitness-related resources specific to the needs of hikers — grounded in functional movement, mobility, and injury prevention.
To make way for new fitness resources, my online training program HIKE-ABILITY has temporarily closed its doors. In the meantime, you can read my blog articles for inspiration and motivation to get in shape for hiking.
