Christian Pond Overlook

Christian Pond Overlook – 1mi / 1.6km

This short, family-friendly, out-and-back hike takes you to a quaint pond frequented by waterfowl.

The trail starts near the corrals at the Jackson Lake Lodge and heads east under the highway and alongside a creek. Take a right at the junction to head towards Christian Pond. The trail passes through a nice riparian area so keep an eye out for birds and the occasional moose.

The trail climbs up a moraine which is the ridge that creates Christian Pond. From the top of the ridge, you get a bird’s-eye view of this quaint pond that attracts a variety of animals. Stay on the trail here to keep from disturbing the wildlife as some birds nest in the pond and the surrounding area. (Note: This section of trail is frequently used by the horse concessionaire. When horses are approaching, remain visible and step off the trail on the downhill side until they’ve passed.)

Turn around here or continue on to do the Christian Pond Loop or, for a longer day, the Emma Matilda Lake Loop. (See Christian Pond Loop and Emma Matilda Lake Loop for description.)

Trailhead: Take the road to Jackson Lake Lodge and make a left at the first junction, then another left to the gas station. Park in the parking lot on the right near the corrals and find the trailhead at the east end.

Elevation Gain: 100ft / 30m – Elevation Loss: 100ft / 30m
