Big Log Camp

Big Log Camp – 10.8mi / 17.4km

This fairly level trail explores the North Fork Skokomish River drainage with its lovely forest and chattering streams. The hike begins on a mellow trail through a lush forests with numerous, chattering creek crossings. You’ll come alongside the river a few times, sometimes high above and others along slower moving sections.

The trail crosses over Madeline Creek where it crashes as a wonderful cascade in a tight gorge. Big Log Camp is not far after the creek and serves as a nice turnaround spot.

On the way back, consider returning on the Staircase Rapids Loop to follow along the river and see its namesake cascades. (See Staircase Rapids Loop for description.)

Trailhead: From Hoodsport, take Hwy 119 towards Cushman-Staircase Recreation Area. Follow the signs all the way to the ranger station in the national park. Parking and the trailhead are behind the ranger station.
