Lost Lake Loop

Lost Lake Loop – 3.3mi / 5.3km

Lost Lake is tucked up in the hills behind the Roosevelt Lodge, and is accessed by a trail that loops through sagebrush meadows and a mature forest. Beginning behind the Tower Ranger Station, the trail climbs up through an open forest which gives way to a rolling sagebrush meadow. Bison, mule deer, and pronghorn frequent the area.

The trail gradually descends down to the parking lot for the petrified tree exhibit, which is also an alternative trailhead for the loop. From here, the trail works its way up a meadow lined with trees to the serene lake. After following the shoreline, the trail enters the trees.

Take the junction to the left to switchback down to the Roosevelt Lodge. The trail to the right, is a great optional addition to the loop, and leads to the pretty Lost Creek Falls. This adds another 1.3mi/2.1km and comes out behind the corrals at the Roosevelt Lodge.

Trailhead: The Tower Ranger Station trailhead is at the end of the road, past the ranger station. The Roosevelt Lodge trailhead is behind the lodge. The alternative trailhead at the petrified tree exhibit can be found by taking the well marked Petrified Tree road east of Tower-Roosevelt, and following it all the way to parking at the end.

Elevation Gain: 700ft / 210m – Elevation Loss: 700ft / 210m
