Lembert Dome

Lembert Dome – 2.1mi / 3.3km

The unobstructed views in every direction of craggy peaks, rounded domes, forest, and open meadows make up for the effort required on this short, but steep hike up to the top of this granite dome.

The trail steeply switchbacks up through a lodgepole forest. At 0.6mi/0.9km, the spur trail for Lembert Dome breaks off to the left. It climbs through the forest out onto the vast granite surface with incredible views. Pick your way to the top, then explore around.

A variety of summits in all directions are an impressive delight while the Tuolumne River snakes through the lovely Tuolumne Meadows below. Dog Lake adds another 2.8mi/4.5km to your day (see Dog Lake).

Trailhead: Turn off the Tioga Road onto the signed road for Tuolumne Lodge. Follow the paved road towards the lodge until you reach the signed parking lot for the Dog Lake / John Muir Trail. The trail begins at the north end of the parking lot.
