Apgar Village

Sometimes it’s easier to miss something that is right under your nose. I think that the trails in close proximity to the Apgar Village fit this description. I went from being surrounded by people to walking into the woods practically by myself. I saw bear, deer, wildflowers and a wide variety of birds without walking more than a mile from the Apgar Visitor’s center. This seemingly flat and mundane forest is perfect habitat for a bunch of animals and while it may not have the iconic views that Glacier is known for, it definitely has its creatures.
It took me two days to complete this section. The first day was the east side of McDonald Creek that comprised primarily of the bike trails, horse trails and a few of the hiking trails. I saw a black bear that I named Pete three times as I wandered around to get all of the trails. He had a nice white bib coloring on his chest and would run away any time he felt I was too close which was very comforting.
Day two brought me the second bear, but this guy was much smaller. At first I didn’t think it was a bear, so I got out my camera and started filming. Once I saw that it was, I finished up and took off so as not to become a victim of a momma bear’s wrath. All in all, it was a nice wandering around and very fruitful with the multitude of birds and wildflowers to tie it all together.

Amazing job on the birds and flowers and your panning is improving! Are you copywriting these videos because you will be able to paste together an incredible movie at the end of the summer. Maybe a natural history guide to Glacier and/or a trail guide?? Put me down for the first copy of the DVD!

Mike, I’m hoping to come out with a bunch of materials when I’m done… and do more work in the future. This is all part of my not so secret plans to do this sort of thing career style. This is an investment year. I’m learning myself and hoping to get that out to others. I’m hoping to do a couple of ecology-related specials soon. Other than that, DVDs, guide books, photos for sale and the like are all on my radar for the future. 😉
