Lookout Mountain
Lookout Mountain – 4.9mi / 7.9km
A steep, and lightly visited trail near Meeker Park leads to a summit with a front row view of Mt. Meeker.
The trail travels through a lodgepole forest just outside of the national park. After passing a sign marking the park boundary, you’ll come to a junction. Stay straight, easily climbing up alongside the creek. After the trail crosses the creek, it begins climbing in earnest, rarely letting up for the next 2mi/3.2km to the top.
The forest gets darker as you climb up the north face with filtered views of Twin Sisters. The trail reaches the saddle with loose soil and gnarled limber pines. Take a left, following cairns heading east to work out to the lonely summit. A table rock marks the top. Mt. Meeker towers above you, summits extend in all directions, and the plains are visible beyond the foothills.
Trailhead: From Colorado Hwy 7, across from Meeker Park Lodge, head west on FS 2312 for approximately 0.7mi/1.1km to the trailhead. Take care to not block private drives when parking near the trailhead.
