Deer Lake

Deer Lake – 7.3mi / 11.8km

Climb up past cascades to a beautiful lake with many places along its shoreline to access its waters. The trail drops into the cathedral forest of massive trees, moss, and ferns on its way to the stunning, three-stranded Sol Duc Falls (see Sol Duc Falls for description).

After enjoying the three-strand waterfall, continue on the Lovers Lane Loop Trail to the junction with the signed trail for Deer Lake. It doesn’t take long to come alongside the continuously cascading Canyon Creek as you begin climbing. You’ll cross the creek numerous times as you ascend. After climbing over 1,500ft/450m, you emerge from the lush forest to Deer Lake.

Numerous campsites around the lake give access to its shores. Explore the berry-laden meadows beyond the lake before returning. Optionally, continue up to the alpine ridge with stunning views (see High Divide Loop for description).

Trailhead: Just east of Lake Crescent, turn onto the Sol Duc Hot Springs Road from Hwy 101. Follow the road all the way to the trailhead at the end.

Elevation Gain: 1,700ft / 510m – Elevation Loss: 1,700ft / 510m
