Holzwarth Historic Site

Holzwarth Historic Site – 1.4mi / 2.2km

Set in a lovely valley, the historic cabins are a fun glimpse into the area’s homesteaders. The level, accessible trail begins in the open, Kawuneeche Valley where the Colorado River winds its way through.

As you cross through the flowering meadow, keep an eye out for elk. After crossing the river, you’ll find rusted, farm implements, wagon parts, and old corrals. The cabins are tucked away in the trees at the edge of the meadow. Interpretive signs tell the story of the historic Trout Lodge and guest ranch of the 1920’s.

Trailhead: Turn into the signed Holzwarth Historic Site parking area 7.5mi/12.1km north of the Grand Lake Entrance off the Trail Ridge Road.
