Lewistown Winter Birding

Rough-legged Hawk

Went out to Lewistown, MT to visit family for the holidays and went out to do a little birding.

I meandered along the snow-covered walking paths that go along Spring Creek. I found soaring bald eagles fishing and rough-legged hawks hunting the meadoww. In the willows I spied wonderful little black-capped chickadees flitting around with a song sparrow making a little cameo. The sparrow’s beak was covered with pieces of a rosebud.

The next day we went driving to see more hawks, a ring-necked pheasant and some waterbirds in the creeks.

Lewistown is a such a great area to bird… and it’s not even the best time of the year for birds!
