Columbine Bay

Columbine Bay – 4.7mi / 7.5km

Follow the Colorado River as it travels from Shadow Mountain Lake to Lake Granby.

The trail begins by the Green Ridge Campground where you’ll cruise through sagebrush meadows to the dam. You’ll get unimpeded views as you cross over the dam, with the Colorado River exiting the lake beneath you. At the sign for the East Shore Trailhead, take a right down the road approximately 75ft/25m where a trail takes off and crosses over a marshy meadow.

Take a right at the next trail junction where you climb up on a bench and work your way through the lodgepole forest with many dead trees. You’ll eventually drop down along the river, first hearing it, then seeing it. The trail then follows right alongside the river as it travels through a scenic canyon and into Lake Granby at Columbine Bay. Explore the shoreline before heading back the same route.

Trailhead: At the south end of Shadow Mountain Lake, turn east onto County Road 66 to Green Ridge Campground. Follow the road past the campground and onto the gravel road to the trailhead.
