Lake Haiyaha

Lake Haiyaha – 3.9mi / 6.3km

This gorgeous lake sits in the surreal boulder fields of Chaos Canyon.

Take an immediate left from the busy Bear Lake Trailhead and follow the signs for Emerald Lake. After a brief 0.5mi/0.8km, you come the picturesque, lily pad pond that is Nymph Lake. The trail skirts the lake and begins climbing with impressive views looking out across the valleys. The trail turns up into the gorge and follows Tyndall Creek to a junction for Dream Lake. Take a right and follow the trail to Dream Lake.

Return to the junction and continue towards Lake Haiyaha. The trail climbs up and around the ridge giving you more impressive views before heading into the canyon. Cross over Chaos Creek and take a right to head towards the lake. Donโ€™t be fooled by the small ponds here, but continue through the boulders and past an impressive, ancient limber pine to Lake Haiyaha. Enormous boulders make up the turquoise-colored lakeโ€™s shore and provide a perfect place to sit and look up into the canyon above.

Return the way you came. (You can turn the day into a 5.4mi/8.7km loop by continuing down through the Glacier Knobs and out via Glacier Gorge.)

Trailhead: Follow Bear Lake Road to the Bear Lake Trailhead, or park at the Park & Ride and take the parkโ€™s free shuttle to the trailhead.
