Park Creek and Two Medicine Pass
—
by
I started out this trip by the Walton Ranger station entrance in the southeast corner of Glacier National Park. The long 14 mile walk up Park Creek to the Upper Park Creek patrol cabin and campground is a treed and non strenuous hike… just a bit boring with very limited views. Once you hit Upper Park Creek, it starts to really open up and the views get very enjoyable. This area is a site of a burn, so you can see all over the place. I took the spur up to Lake Isabel and camped there that evening and woke up to a moose feeding in the water. I packed up and headed out for a four mile uphill hike to Two Medicine Pass with the views getting better with every turn. When you’re on top of the pass, you see mountain peaks all around you and you can look down into the two drainages. I crossed the path of a pretty sizable herd of bighorn sheep on the way down with the rams having their own little mini herd. You have gathering water from melting snow that feeds Cobalt Lake that is beautifully nestled into the ridge that separates Chief Lodgepole from Painted Teepee. A field of glacier lilies brought a great splash of yellow to the area and I followed the trail (some of it still covered in snow) down to Rockwell Falls and out along Two Medicine Lake. Day one up Park Creek wasn’t anything to write home about, but from Lake Isabel all the way back to Two Medicine was fantastic and something I’ll definitely see again.

Enjoyed this video and the story of your hike. Great seeing the bull moose!
Seems like it might be good to date each video/essay so that the viewer can find it again on the right side of the page where the months are listed under “Articles”. -
Wow! That was a long trip! How amazing was that moose… Would have loved to have been there to see that.
