Crown of the Continent: The Wildest Rockies

Feature Friday – Steven Gnam

I first met Steven Gnam at a wedding rehearsal dinner. We quickly found out that he was good friends with some childhood friends of mine. I told him about my project and we resolved to get out on one of my hikes in 2011. That trip ended up being one to Logging and Grace Lakes. It was muddy and raining on the way in and muddy with mosquitos on the way out. The saving grace was the good camaraderie and shared suffering.

Crown of the Continent: The Wildest Rockies

A little over a year ago, I visited Steven in his home in Washington and he told me about a book he was working on. If you haven’t seen his photography, a trip to his blog is more than worth it. I know a lot of outdoor photographers, but Steven’s photos move me in a way that nobody else does. When I heard about his book, I knew that I needed one and I wanted to let everyone know about it.

Right now his book is available via pre-order. You should go check it out. It is about the Crown of the Continent and features not only Glacier National Park, but the surrounding lands both north and south along the spine of the Rocky Mountains. There is a video that you’ll have to watch a couple of times and you’ll get a sense of how mesmerizing his work is. I guarantee that you will want to head for the Crown.
