About
What do we do?
We love exploring the great outdoors… specifically we love hiking in National Parks. If you’re here, I’m guessing you do too. If you’re looking to sort through the huge amount of information and just figure out which trail would be perfect for you, you’re in the right place!
We’ve extensively hiked in Glacier (every mile of trail to be exact… see below), Grand Teton, Olympic, Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Zion, written about the hikes, rated the hikes, and put it all together with amazing maps.
Feel free to explore the trail videos on the blog, read the descriptions and see the rankings on the National Parks page, and pick up a map to take with you to plan and hit the trail… where you really want to be!
What is Hike 734?
In the winter of 2010, I (Jake) had this harebrained idea to try and every mile of Glacier National Park’s trails. Based upon the data from the park, that number was 734 miles. I announced my project on my site in January of 2011 and spent the ensuing months planning out my approach analyzing maps and making spreadsheets.
On May 17th, 2011, I officially started the project by hiking the McDonald Creek Trail and slowly hiked more trails as the snow receded. With the luck of no fires and the snow holding out, I was able to wrap up the project on October 15th, 2011 to become the first person to hike all of them in one summer.
The project pivoted into a business with the release of the Going-to-the-Sun Road Driving Guide in 2013 and the Day Hikes of Glacier National Park Map Guide in 2014.
In 2014, we started working on other parks to bring the same format. First up was Zion, followed by Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Yosemite, Olympic, then Rocky Mountain.
